Operatives from the Makurdi Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Dr. Mkor Aondona, the Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning to the Governor of Benue State, over allegations of sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.
The arrest took place on Friday, June 20, 2025, in Makurdi, following disturbing reports submitted by multiple female students who accused the governor’s aide of engaging in criminal sexual exploitation and digital harassment.
Allegations of Sexual Exploitation and Coercion
According to the EFCC, the petitioners claimed that Dr. Aondona routinely targeted slim, attractive young women, often offering them ushering jobs. However, he allegedly made sexual compliance a condition for selection.
The complainants further alleged that, unknown to them, Dr. Aondona secretly recorded the sexual encounters, and later used the explicit footage to blackmail them into further sexual acts, threatening to leak the videos if they refused.
Cyberbullying and Distribution of Explicit Content
EFCC sources stated that the suspect also engaged in malicious distribution of these non-consensual recordings through various messaging platforms, intensifying the psychological and reputational harm to his victims.
Some of the videos have reportedly leaked online, increasing public outrage and drawing attention to the wider issue of digital sexual abuse and power-based exploitation in government and academic spaces.
Legal Proceedings Expected
The EFCC confirmed that Dr. Aondona remains in custody and will be formally charged in court after the completion of investigations.
This incident has ignited conversations about abuse of office, gender-based violence, and the urgent need for ethical accountability within public service in Nigeria.
