Nigeria’s commercial banking giant, Access Bank, has yet to publicly comment on allegations surrounding the disappearance of millions of naira belonging to one of its customers.

The development has sparked concerns online after a video surfaced showing a woman who claimed that funds in her Access Bank account had allegedly been withdrawn without her authorisation.

In the video, which has circulated widely on social media, the unidentified woman said she had kept millions of naira in her account but later discovered that money was being deducted under circumstances she described as suspicious.

According to her account, the alleged withdrawals began in October 2025, with her balance reportedly falling from about ₦3 million to zero.

The woman said she had repeatedly visited an Access Bank branch to report the alleged unauthorised transactions and seek clarification, but claimed she was informed that the matter was still under investigation.

Expressing frustration in the viral video, she said she was finding it difficult to resolve the situation on her own.

“I came to Access Bank, I cannot find my money. They told me that it is under investigation. I came again today, they told me they’ve contacted their headquarters.”

She added:

“I really need help because I can’t do this alone. Since October 2025, they have been taking money from my account. They took everything; not even N200 is left in my account. I trusted Access Bank so much, but they took my money.”

The circumstances surrounding the alleged withdrawals remain unclear, as the bank has not publicly explained what happened to the customer’s funds.

Access Bank Yet to Respond

Following the emergence of the video, inquiries were reportedly sent to Access Holdings Plc’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Olakunle Aderinokun, seeking clarification on the allegations.

However, no response had been received at the time of reporting.

Access Bank had also not issued an official statement explaining whether the customer’s account was compromised, whether the transactions were authorised, or whether an internal investigation had established what happened to the money.

Claims Over Customer’s SIM

Meanwhile, unverified claims circulating in connection with the incident suggest that the customer’s Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) may have been linked to another person’s account after a period of inactivity.

However, it remains unclear whether this claim is connected to the alleged disappearance of the funds, and there has been no official confirmation from Access Bank establishing the circumstances surrounding the customer’s account.

Bank Customers’ Association Reacts

The matter has also attracted the attention of the Bank Customers’ Association of Nigeria, with its president reportedly calling on Access Bank to provide the affected customer with a clear explanation.

According to him, a bank has a responsibility to account for its customer’s funds and explain any suspicious transactions involving an account.

He also advised the woman to escalate the matter to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) if her allegations are accurate and she is unable to obtain a satisfactory explanation from the bank.

“The bank, in whatsoever circumstances, owes its customers full disclosure. I advise she escalate to the Central Bank of Nigeria if she is saying the truth.”

The case has continued to generate reactions on social media, particularly among bank customers concerned about the security of their deposits and the procedures available to them when they suspect unauthorised transactions.

For now, the allegations remain claims by the customer and have not been independently established. The circumstances surrounding the reported withdrawals, the identity of whoever may have accessed the funds and whether there was any security breach are yet to be officially clarified.

A response from Access Bank would be expected to shed more light on the matter and explain what steps, if any, have been taken to investigate the customer’s complaint.
