The family of the late Nollywood legend John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has set June 28 as the date for his burial in his hometown of Amuri, Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State.
Mr. Ibu’s family made the announcement in a statement jointly signed by his elder brother Elder Sunday Okafor and his immediate family.
The statement highlighted the actor’s significant contributions to Enugu State, Nigeria, and Africa as a whole.
“The Okafor family in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West LGA in Enugu State wishes to honour the loving memory of our hero and a legend John Ikechukwu Okafor, who even in death has left a legacy of love, laughter, and liveliness,” the statement read.
The burial ceremony will commence on Tuesday, June 25, with a novelty match, followed by Mr. Ibu’s Night on June 26, featuring a candlelight procession and live entertainment.
On June 27, there will be a Christian Wake-Keep at his compound in Eziokwe Amuri, while the funeral service is set for June 28. The five-day burial event will conclude with a Church Thanksgiving on Sunday, June 30 for family members, friends, and well-wishers.
