A Federal High Court in Abuja has sacked David Umahi, Governor of Ebonyi State, and Eric Igwe, his deputy, over their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The judgment, delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo on Tuesday, held that the 393,042 votes Umahi secured belonged to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and could not be legally transferred to the APC.
The court noted that Umahi and Igwe’s defection to the APC not only dismissed the PDP, but also the votes that belonged to the party.
The governor and his deputy defected from the PDP to the APC in November 2020.
