A shocking case of incest has rattled the city of Ibadan as a 14-year-old Junior Secondary School 3 (JS3) student gave birth to a baby allegedly fathered by her own biological father, 43-year-old Kayode Oluwaseyifunmi. The disturbing incident, which has drawn outrage across Oyo State, has placed a spotlight on child abuse, family neglect, and the failures of social protection systems.

The young girl, whose identity has been withheld for legal and psychological reasons, was said to have gone into premature labour while at an orphanage home that had offered her shelter after the case was exposed by Radio Nigeria. Her condition became critical, forcing urgent medical intervention.

She was initially rushed to Molete Health Center, Oyo state owned hospitals, Yemetu Adeoyo and Ring Road hospital but was rejected due to some complications associated with her delivery.

She was later referred to the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan where she eventually gave birth to a baby girl through a Cesarean section, and the newborn was immediately placed on oxygen as the baby was born premature.

The mother too had to be given oxygen to resuscitate her due to the stress of carrying pregnancy at a tender age.

When Radio Nigeria contacted the relatives of the Mr. Oluwaseyifunmi and that of his late wife, none could provide financial assistance needed at the hospital, while no family member is available to stay with the teenage mother and the newborn at the intensive care unit.

After much pleading, a caregiver was hired by the two families to do the job for just six days which cost twenty one thousand naira.

The young mother, a student of Junior Secondary School 3 at a public school in Oluyole local government area of Oyo state before the incident happened.

The case of the fourteen year old girl came into the open when her sudden disappearance from the school became a tale in the community where she was living with her two younger sisters, age ten and twelve.

In an interview with Radio Nigeria, the girl explained that she had to stop her Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, due to the shame of facing her co-students.

The dark chubby girl also said she had been having an illicit affair with her biological father for about two years before she became pregnant.

Meanwhile, the incident was reported to the Ministry of Women Affairs by Radio Nigeria and the perpetrator, Mr. Kayode Oluwaseyifunmi who had been nurturing the three girls for over seven years after the demise of their mother was arrested by the police and detained at Agodi Correctional Center in Ibadan.

What could have led a self acclaimed Evangelist to such a heinous crime?

The 43 year old man who was also a bricklayer attributed the act to the devil, claiming that he did not know what came over him.
