The Federal Government has declared Tuesday a public holiday in honour of late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
This was announced in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, as part of the ongoing seven-day national mourning period declared by President Bola Tinubu.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo said the holiday is to pay respect to the former President for his dedication to national service, his role in deepening democracy, and the legacy he left behind in governance and development.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity and a strong commitment to the unity and progress of our country,” the Minister stated.
He added that the public holiday will give Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on Buhari’s life, leadership style and the values he promoted.
The Minister also called on citizens to use the day to promote peace, unity and patriotism in line with the vision the late leader had for a better Nigeria.
The federal government, he said, extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late President, the people of Katsina State and all Nigerians, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
